It was a slog to get through, I rate it 2/5.
The story is about a young woman who loses her mom to cancer, so she treks off to Italy to learn about her mom's younger years and unravel the mystery of her father.
It is framed as the daughter, Lina, reading her mother's journal and piecing the past together, all while living her own Italian adventure.
Lina's "Italian adventure" wasn't very adventurous. She jumped in a pool, rode a scooter, went to a club -- oh and, of course, ate gelato. Super exciting. In fact, I found Lina's present day life to be quite boring; I just wanted to skip over it and return to her mother's journal where actual excitement, intrigue, and adventure lived.
Maybe I've become jaded toward teen romances, but the ending tied everything up in a nice, feel-good bow that left me unsatisfied.
